Andrea Maack is a luxury niche perfume house from Iceland, founded in 2012 by Icelandic artist Andrea Maack. Originally from the world of fine arts, she discovered fragrance as another artistic medium – a form of expression that can convey emotions, memories, and atmosphere in a unique way.
The first fragrances originated from an art installation: for an exhibition, Andrea Maack initially developed a single fragrance as part of a multi-sensory project. The intense work with scent fascinated her so much that it eventually led to her own perfume collection.
As a visual artist, Andrea Maack views fragrance much like a drawing or a movement: a perfume unfolds linearly on the skin and in the air – comparable to brushstrokes moving across a canvas. This artistic perspective continues to shape the brand's distinctive signature today.
Andrea Maack's fragrances combine artistic creativity with high standards of quality and sustainability. The formulations consist of approximately 88–89% natural ingredients, of which around 80% are certified organic. The raw materials come from, among other places, Grasse, the world's most important center of perfumery.
The remaining fragrance molecules are consciously used to replace rare or protected plants and conserve natural resources.
The base of the perfumes consists of 100% organic Icelandic alcohol and pure Icelandic water.
Inspired by the nature of Iceland
The rugged, impressive landscape of Iceland is a central source of inspiration for the brand. Volcanic rocks, vast landscapes, and clear Nordic aesthetics are reflected in both the fragrance compositions and the design.
The minimalist bottle was designed by Milanese architect Maddalena Casadei and is inspired by black obsidian volcanic rock from the Icelandic highlands. It is produced by the traditional glass manufacturer Bormioli Luigi in Parma.
The packaging also follows a sustainable philosophy: it is completely plastic-free and 100% recyclable.
