OJAR was founded in 2020 by Omani entrepreneur Sheikha Hind Bahwan and takes its name from Hojari, the finest frankincense from the Dhofar mountains. The brand combines the perfume traditions of the Middle East with Western expertise, composed by master perfumers such as Jordi Fernández, Dalia Izem, Gaël Montero, Michel Girard and Nanako Ogi. At SNUD in Vienna-Josefstadt you can take your time to smell and compare the collection and take samples home with you.
What makes OJAR special to us?
We love this tangible sense of origin: you can smell Oman – the frankincense, the rose, the honey – translated into modern, very wearable perfumery. And we love how concrete the stories behind the fragrances are, from the halwa at a family celebration in Halwa Kiss to the frankincense gatherer placing the resin in his leather pouch.
Who are OJAR fragrances for?
For anyone who loves frankincense, resins and warm woods – and for anyone who wants to experience oriental perfumery in a bright, light way. If you like sweet and soft, start with Halwa Kiss, Wood Whisper or Solar Flair; if you like spicy and warm, with Infusion Velours or Encens Cuivre; and if you're after wood and resin, with Eagle Eyed Stranger or the fresh, woody Extrait Ever Lit. The fragrances are unisex.
OJAR's fragrances are organised by raw material, three of them rooted directly in Oman's landscapes: frankincense from Dhofar, roses from Jebel Akhdar and honey from Rustaq. Sandalwood, musk and oud complete the set. Frankincense runs like a common thread through every collection – it isn't just the brand's namesake, it is its heart.
The collection shows how different frankincense can sound: Eagle Eyed Stranger is woody, spicy and resinous, Encens Cuivre oriental, spicy and woody, Routes Nomades oriental, leathery and spicy.
Where East and West meet
Sheikha Hind Bahwan grew up in Sur on Oman's coast. She finds inspiration in her country's heritage, culture and nature, but just as much on her travels around the world. Her ideas are brought to life by great perfumers, as Eau de Parfum and as Extrait.
Most of the fragrances at SNUD were composed by Jordi Fernández, including Wood Whisper, Red Redemption and Kashmir Print. Dalia Izem created Halwa Kiss and Épine du Désert, Gaël Montero Solar Flair, Michel Girard Stallion Soul and Nanako Ogi Routes Nomades.
