Andrea Maack – Icelandic niche perfumery from the visual artist of the same name, who has been bringing art, fashion and fragrance together since her first scent exhibition in 2010.
Coven is green, resinous and mysterious – an Icelandic forest at first light, damp earth, moss and dew included. Vanilla, labdanum and a dash of whiskey open surprisingly warm, cedarwood and oakmoss pull the scent into the woods at the heart, before galbanum and clove lay down a bitter-green, spicy base.
Coven works all year, but it is at its best in autumn and spring, when everything outside smells of wet earth. This gender-neutral fragrance is as wearable by day as it is in the evening and makes a characterful signature scent.
What fascinates us about Coven is its upside-down pyramid: the warm, sweet notes come first, the bitter green only at the end. Céline Ripert has built a forest scent with nothing of the pine-needle cliché – it smells of moss, bark and a lingering warmth. One of our bestsellers, and rightly so.
THE SNUD SCENT GUIDE
Everything you want to know about this fragrance.
What does Coven smell like?
Green, resinous and warm at once: vanilla, labdanum and whiskey open, cedarwood and oakmoss form the heart, galbanum and clove a bitter-green, spicy base.
How does Coven feel?
Like a walk through damp woods with a warm cup in your hand – earthy and cool on one side, soft and comforting on the other. Present, but never loud.
When do you wear Coven?
All year round, especially in autumn and spring, by day and by night – a gender-neutral fragrance for anyone who loves green, earthy compositions.
Which fragrance might I like if I like Coven?
If it is the mix of whiskey, vanilla and resinous depth that draws you to Coven, try Velvet Vendetta by Sarah Baker – where whiskey and vanilla meet weathered wood and a smoky edge.
