Its model was a baroque copper beaker in Vienna’s MAK, itself influenced by Islamic design. True to the spirit of the fifties, the Alpha tumblers stack, and the wafer-thin muslin glass, mouth-blown in wooden moulds, gives them their elegance. In 1964 the series won the German State Prize for “Good Form”. In grey a tumbler for every day – and mixed in several colours, a table that makes you happy. Designed by Harald Rath, 1952.
Dimensions: ⌀ 9 cm, H 7.2 cm.
Lobmeyr is a Viennese glass manufactory run by the same family for six generations. Every piece of muslin glass is mouth-blown into wet beechwood moulds, just 0.7 to 1.1 mm thin, and passes through at least 24 pairs of hands and four quality checks before it is sold – the last always by a family member.

Mouth-blown
Muslin glass, 0.7 to 1.1 mm thin
The glass is named after the light fabric muslin. It looks more fragile than it is: thanks to its inner elasticity it is surprisingly resilient. Because every piece is shaped by hand, each one is unique, with minimal irregularities.
Material: lead-free crystal glass (muslin glass)
Colour: grey
Dimensions: ⌀ 9 cm, H 7.2 cm
Washing your Lobmeyr glasses by hand is much gentler and always preferable to the dishwasher. Use a little washing-up liquid and warm water, then rinse carefully so that no soap residue remains. Take particular care with the delicate muslin glass when drying.
As a rule, Lobmeyr glass is dishwasher-safe (glass programme!). However, glass contains very small amounts of water-soluble elements, so we recommend using as little detergent and rinse aid as possible to avoid damaging the glass surface. Please always open the dishwasher door once the drying cycle has finished so that hot residual water can escape as steam. If it stays on the glass in the warm, humid environment, it can cause irreversible clouding.
